Deer Turn Back Montgomery, 7-6
|
Montgomery got a terrific performance from shortstop Jason Middleton, but it wasn't enough to beat the Sheridan Deer. Sheridan won the Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium contest, 7-6. Middleton was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He went 3 for 4 with a double and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Sheridan reliever Louis Steijn picked up the win, upping his record to 5-0. Francisco Borges was saddled with the loss. Their 31-41 record puts the Deer 10th in the Menard's R.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the fifth, with the game tied, Domingo Villa was at the plate when Sheridan scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Deer to go in front, 7-6.
"We'll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow," Villa said.
