Multi-HR Day for Neváres as Harbor Whales Overpower Deer, 16-6
|
The Greenport Harbor Whales knocked off the Sheridan Deer, 16-6, at Ballpark of Robbins. Juan Neváres, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Greenport won. The second baseman went 3 for 5 with 2 home runs and a double, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 9. Greenport reliever Wilson Mar picked up the win, bumping his record to 1-1. Greg Stengel was collared with the loss. José Gómez closed the game out for Greenport, earning his 1st save.
Neváres contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for Greenport in the bottom of the second. With his team trailing 3-1, Neváres took a fastball from Greg Stengel and stroked the home run to left. His 4th home run of the season allowed the Harbor Whales to leap in front, 5-3.
"Our guys are never satisfied," said Greenport manager Austin Brown.
Greenport is now 47-20, 5 games up in the Menard's R.
