Baby Lakers Walk Off with 1-0 Win
|
Fans who came to Field of the Browns watched the Bompton Baby Lakers and the Greenport Harbor Whales fight to the finish.
The Bompton Baby Lakers picked up a win at Field of the Browns, knocking off the Greenport Harbor Whales, 1-0. On the mound for Bompton was left-hander Lance Barber, who played a pivotal role in the win. Bompton reliever Harley Hawk picked up the win, bumping his record to 1-0. Ken Grant was collared with the loss.
In the bottom of the ninth, with one out and the game tied, 0-0, third baseman Jonathan Winston won it for Bompton. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Winston hit a 1-1 cutter from Ken Grant for a run-scoring single, giving his team a 1-0 win.
"That's the key at this level, throwing strike one," said Barber. "Successful pitchers do it."
Losses have been few and far between for the Harbor Whales, who are now 17-2.
