Victory Pushes Warheads Record to 50-38
|
The Amarillo Warheads defeated the Franklin Fire, 6-2, in USSL Rookie action at Ballpark of Henderson, with Amarillo third baseman Huang-di Shu named player of the game. Amarillo reliever Josse Gavicho picked up the win, upping his record to 3-3. Jim Porter absorbed the loss. Amarillo's record now stands at 50-38, placing them third in the Silver R.
Jim McCourtney had a big 2-run single for the Warheads in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Amarillo leading 3-2 and the bases loaded, he got a slider from Jim Porter and stroked the single to center. It was his 84th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Warheads ahead, 5-2.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Shu. "And not try to do too much."
