The Franklin Fire downed the Hicksville Hounds, 9-2, at Hound Pound. The Fire were led by Bobby Verstraten, who captured player of the game honors. He went 2 for 4 with a triple and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. Hank Lynn got the win, improving to 9-2. He held the Hounds to 1 earned run on 6 hits over 6 innings, while striking out 4 and walking 1. The save went to Gan Hui, his 2nd this season.
The result might have been different for Franklin, had it not been for Tucker Sanford, the 21-year old center fielder . Sanford stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the seventh inning to put Franklin up, 3-1. For the game, he had 2 doubles and 1 single in 6 at-bats.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Franklin manager Mark Davis.
Franklin bumps their record to 42-44 with the win.
