Snowpeople Bang Out 6-3 Win Versus Moose Jaw
|
Moose Jaw got a terrific game from designated hitter Pablo Wolz. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Ellesmere Island, 6-3. Wolz was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Eric Blevins got the win, improving to 7-3. He pitched 5 innings, giving up 7 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 4 and walking 1. Hirokazu Morita picked up the save for Ellesmere Island, his 5th of the year.
The Canucks had been locked in a 3-3 tie with the Snowpeople going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 19-year old second baseman Paul Sykes came to the plate. Sykes hit a 2-run single on a 1-0 fastball from Moose Jaw hurler Sergio Castro. It was Sykes's 19th hit of the year.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Sykes. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
Ellesmere Island is now 37-35. Moose Jaw is 19-53.
