Phoenix got a terrific performance from pitcher Edward Martin, but it wasn't enough to beat the Ballard Beavers. Ballard won the Ballpark of Fresno contest, 4-3. Martin was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball. Ipe van Veldhuizen earned the save for Ballard, his 4th. The Beavers go to 21-27, putting them 8th in the Silver R.
Héctor Heredice found himself in a pressure situation in the top of the eighth. Facing Phoenix hurler Boris Klosner, the 18-year-old third baseman drew a walk, driving in 1 run. His 9th walk of the season put the Beavers on top, 4-3.
"This was a good win," said Heredice.
