Ellesmere Island starter Jorge Ortega had a strong outing against the Franklin Fire at The Igloo. The left-hander was a big part of his team's 5-1 win. Ortega got the win, improving to 3-0. He allowed 2 hits and walked 4 over 5.1 innings. Ortega allowed no earned runs. The Snowpeople, now 8-2, have played some good baseball in the early going.

Francisco Rocha put Ellesmere Island in front, 3-0, when he took Dave Miller downtown. His 2-run home run came with one out in the bottom of the fifth. It was his 2nd home run of the season.

"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Ellesmere Island manager Billy Strauss. "It's usually not just one thing."
