Washington Delivers Clutch At-Bat for Chicago in Walk-Off Win
|
William Burkett never let the Gold Sox get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his slider, to pitch the Tula to a 2-1 win. With the win, Chicago has a record of 48-47. Chicago falls to 57-38.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Jeff Washington came to bat in the bottom of the 11th. Facing Chicago pitcher Shiki Yamamoto, he hit a 1-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Chicago on top, 2-1.
"It was terrific getting this win," Washington said. "We put in a lot of work to do it."
