Gold Sox Get Road Win, 4-2
|
Chicago got a terrific performance from pitcher Garrett Austin, but it wasn't enough to beat the Chicago Gold Sox. Chicago won the Ramblers Ballpark contest, 4-2. Austin was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He came in in relief and pitched to 23 batters . Arlen Chesnutt got the win, improving to 3-1. He worked 5 innings, giving up 2 runs on 4 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 3. Earning his 6th save of the year was Jubal Ropp.
The result might have been different for Chicago, had it not been for Ron Ficco. The third baseman produced a run-scoring double in the top of the third inning to put the Gold Sox ahead, 2-1. For the game, Ficco had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
Ficco told the Chicago Bulletin: "I don't know which I enjoy more -- being a ballplayer or the perks that come with being a ballplayer."
At 23-10, the Gold Sox find themselves in first place in the Premier A.
