Myrtle Beach got a terrific performance from catcher Dermott Mann, but it wasn't enough to beat the Galesburg Guzzlers. Galesburg won the Galesburg Field contest, 8-5. Mann was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 2 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Ettore Guizzardi got credit for the win, improving to 1-1. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 4 innings. Corey Holt earned the save for Galesburg, his 1st of the year.
Galesburg catcher Junior O'Day helped the Guzzlers to the win. In the bottom of the second inning, the 21-year old catcher stroked a run-scoring single. For the game, O'Day went 1-4.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," O'Day told the Galesburg Daily News. "It's as simple as that."
Even with the win, the Guzzlers have a dismal 7-13 record.
