Vandals Suffer 9-5 Setback
|
The inspired effort of Eugene shortstop Claudio Vargas was not enough to prevent a 9-5 loss to the Walla Walla Walleye. Vargas was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Vicente Dávila got the win, improving to 2-1. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 7 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 3 and walking 0. The Walleye have hit the ground running, raising their record to 10-5. While it's still too soon to talk about Walla Walla hoisting their 3rd PL A Championship trophy, fans are getting excited about their strong start.
Walla Walla took the lead in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and the bases loaded, Abdelaziz Bouteflika stroked a run-scoring single to make it 5-4, Walleye.
"Our guys are never satisfied," said Walla Walla manager Erik Davis.
