Airmen Come Up Short at Phoenix
|
The inspired effort of Alameda left fielder Brandon Wilson was not enough to prevent a 5-4 loss to the Phoenix Hotspur U-21. Wilson went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Phoenix reliever Bernard Hewer picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Bob Payne was saddled with the loss. Ron Meredith earned the save for Phoenix, his 21st.
Phoenix took a 5-4 lead on Jesse McCoy's 15th double of the season. The run-scoring double, which McCoy hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Alameda pitcher Bob Payne shaking his head.
"I was a little disappointed," said Alameda manager Juan Alvarado. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
Phoenix is 7th in the Silver A with a record of 42-50.
