Syracuse got a terrific performance from pitcher Ed Lake, but it wasn't enough to beat the Caldwell Chiefs. Caldwell won the Storm Park contest, 3-2. Lake was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 6 innings allowing 3 runs. Caldwell reliever Sakutaro Matsumoto picked up the win, upping his record to 3-0. Ed Lake was saddled with the loss. Caldwell goes to 46-29. The win puts them 2½ games up in their division.

Caldwell took a 3-2 lead on Yong-hong Ren's 10th home run of the season. The solo home run came off Syracuse pitcher Ed Lake in the top of the seventh.

"Feels good to get the job done," Ren said after the game.
