Caldwell starter Shem Burkholder pitched effectively against the Mancelona Torch at Pipers Ballpark. The right-hander led his team to a 5-3 win. Burkholder got the win, improving to 1-1. He allowed 6 hits and walked 2 over 6.1 innings. Burkholder allowed 2 earned runs. Colton Moonfall recorded the save for Caldwell, his 9th of the season.

Tied up with the Torch in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Chiefs got a boost from center fielder You-liang Yang. With the bases loaded, Yang saw a 1-2 changeup from Tony Wood and hit a 2-run double to break the stalemate and put Caldwell on top, 2-0.

"As well as we've been playing, I think we can play even better," said Caldwell manager Hugh Harris.
