Torch Need Extra Frames to Get Past Hotspur U-21
|
Fans who came to Torch Field watched the Mancelona Torch and the Phoenix Hotspur U-21 fight to the finish.
Phoenix got a terrific performance from pitcher Heath Brown, but it wasn't enough to beat the Mancelona Torch. Mancelona won the Torch Field contest, 3-2. Brown was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 8 innings of shutout ball. Fernando Gonzáles, credited with the win, is now 1-1. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1 innings.
Mancelona took a 3-2 lead on Cristóbal Arroyo's 16th hit of the season. The run-scoring single, which Arroyo hit in the bottom of the 12th, left Phoenix pitcher Javier Fierro visibly frustrated.
"Exhilarating win," said Arroyo.
Phoenix, at 13-12, has lost 4 straight.
