Chiefs Come Back Late to Top Expos
|
Fans of the Caldwell Chiefs who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a Caldwell win over the visiting Niagara Falls Expos, 3-1. Mike Bennett started for the home team against David Schrattenthaler. David Schrattenthaler earned the coveted player of the game honors. Caldwell reliever Miguel Villalobos was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Jesús Fregaso took the loss. Picking up the save was Vasile Alexandrescu, his 1st.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder You-liang Yang came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Niagara Falls pitcher Jesús Fregaso, he hit a 1-2 curveball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Caldwell on top, 3-1.
Yang called the win "a collective effort."
