Generals Throttle River Rats, 5-1
|
The Generals had to overcome a good performance from Columbia pitcher Nick Hayes to claim a 5-1 win at Washington Park. Hayes went 5.2 innings and allowed no earned runs. The Generals are now 21-26, while the River Rats fall to 18-29.
Jeroen Penning hit a bases-clearing double off Micheal Smith in the bottom of the seventh, which put the Generals in front, 4-1. In addition to the double, Penning had 1 single, while going 2 for 4.
"We'll savor this win," Penning told the Washington Citizen, "then get ready for the next game."
