Flamingos Raise Rally Flag, Beat Philadelphia 1776, 6-5
|
The Las Vegas Flamingos took Philadelphia 1776 pitcher Gilberto Pontojá's best shot and still were able to claim a win at The Strip. The final score had Las Vegas getting past the BC, 6-5. Pontojá went 5 innings and allowed no earned runs, striking out 2. Ryan Peterson, credited with the win, is now 4-3. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. Even with the win, the Flamingos have a dismal 33-67 record.
The Flamingos were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth when right fielder Juan Jose Hernández turned a 0-2 slider from Blair Wright into a bases-clearing double. The walk-off double sent a roar through the crowd and gave Las Vegas a thrilling 6-5 win.
"Great to get the crowd on its feet," Hernández said.
