River Rats Come Back Late to Clip Bulls
The 2039 season is getting ugly for Mt. Vernon.

The Columbia River Rats eked out a 5-4 win versus the Mt. Vernon Bulls at Columbia Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Nick Hayes, who captured player of the game honors. Mt. Vernon is in the throes of a 9-game losing streak.

A critical at-bat came in the bottom of the eighth inning when the River Rats sent 22-year-old shortstop Ryan Guengerich to the plate with the bases loaded. The youngster shook off the pressure and reached on an error by the 3B, driving in 1 run, to put Columbia on top, 5-4.

"We'll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow," Guengerich said.
