Loons Stay Hot, Beat Thunder Hawks

The Minnesota Loons knocked off the Ft. Polk South Thunder Hawks, 8-4, at Thunder Hawks Ballpark. John Hawley, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Minnesota won. The third baseman went 1-2 with a home run and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Minnesota reliever Ángel Herrera got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Dave Lawson was tagged with the loss. The Loons, now 9-4, have been playing some good baseball.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the seventh, with Minnesota trailing 4-3, Alejandro Cantú was at the plate when Minnesota scored 2 on an error. The miscue enabled the Loons to go in front, 5-4.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Hawley told reporters after the game.
