Rainbow Mermaids Drop Patriots, 6-3
|
Rainbow Mermaids center fielder Phil McCroskey put his stamp on his team's 6-3 win over the Boston Patriots. McCroskey went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 3 runs for Northern Virginia in the contest. Gerald Orlebar got the win, improving to 1-1. He held the Patriots to 1 earned run on 6 hits over 6.1 innings, while striking out 5 and walking 1. Yoriyoshi Sugimoto finished the game for Northern Virginia and earned his 6th save.
The Rainbow Mermaids grabbed the lead in the bottom of the third. With two out, Tural Bishara, who led the PL in RBI with 86 in 2036, hit a 3-run home run off Firpo Marberry, putting Northern Virginia in front, 5-0. For Bishara, it was his 14th home run of the season.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Northern Virginia manager David Lister.
Northern Virginia goes to 60-31. The win puts them 2½ games up in their division.
