The Marquette Miners eked out a 2-1 win versus the Asheville Highlanders at Asheville Park. Nobody did more than pitcher Jorge Veráquez, who captured player of the game honors. Joe Gorman notched his 14th save in 18 chances. At 41-31, the Miners are currently third in the Menard's AA.

It could have been a different outcome for Marquette, had it not been for Jesús Méndez, the 24-year old shortstop . Méndez contributed a run-scoring ground out in the top of the fifth inning to put Marquette up, 2-1.

"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Méndez.
