Miners Subdue Billings, 2-1

The Marquette Miners turned back the Billings Polar Bears, 2-1, at Marquette Stadium. Eric Manchester was named player of the game for his fine performance. He threw 7 innings of 5-hit ball. Manchester, now 6-3, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 6, walking 1, and allowing 1 earned run. Marquette now has a 3-game win streak.
The Miners used some clutch hitting to beat the Polar Bears, a good example being the at-bat of Darryl Edwards in the bottom of the second. With two down, Edwards gave his team the lead, 2-0, when he hit a 2-run single.
"I'm proud of the way we took care of business and got the 'W' today," Manchester told the Marquette Daily. "Whatever it takes."
