The Bethesda Atoms picked up a win at Atoms Field, knocking off the Billings Polar Bears, 3-1. Starting pitcher Yeow-whye Gao was an essential part of his team's success. Gao, now 3-4, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 1 earned run. François Boyer converted his 3rd save in 4 tries.
Bethesda took the lead in the bottom of the sixth. With two out and a runner on 2nd, Conor Culver stroked a run-scoring single to make it 2-1, Atoms.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Gao.
Bethesda is now 29-30, while Billings is 28-31.
