Grey Wolves Cut Down Evergreens, 7-3
|
Vancouver left fielder Gene Ricks was instrumental in his team's 7-3 win over the Portland Evergreens. Ricks, who is tied for 3rd in the PL in doubles with 21, went 2-4 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Grey Wolves. Sjaak Bonne earned the save for Vancouver, his 10th of the year. The 6th-place Grey Wolves raised their record to 35-41.
Vancouver used the timely hitting of Derek Corbin to capture the win. The third baseman socked a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Grey Wolves ahead, 4-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Corbin.
