Flamingos Lose, 5-1, at Ben Franklin Memorial Coliseum
The Philadelphia 1776 BC picked up a win at Ben Franklin Memorial Coliseum, knocking off the Las Vegas Flamingos, 5-1. Starting pitcher Gilberto Pontojá, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Pontojá, now 5-7, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 5, walking 1, and allowing 1 earned run. Even with the win, the BC have a dismal 25-51 record.

Gerold Olthof had a big 2-run single for the BC in the bottom of the third inning. With Philadelphia 1776 leading 2-1 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a fastball from Kagetoki Matsubara and stroked the single to right. It was his 57th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the BC ahead, 4-1.

"I just trusted my stuff," said Pontojá.
