Despite a fine performance by designated hitter Fernando Sandoval, the Vermont Lake Monsters suffered a 5-2 loss to the Syracuse Starks. Sandoval was 3 for 4 with a double, 2 singles, and was hit by a pitch. With the win, Syracuse goes to 43-50, while the Lake Monsters fall to 56-37.
Helping the Syracuse cause was Nelson Rivera. In the bottom of the seventh, the 29-year old center fielder had a run-scoring walk to make the score 4-2, Starks.
"I felt we were ready to go," said Syracuse manager Kenny Billings. "Our pregame was pretty good."
