Highlanders Squelch Polar Bears Offense in Shutout Win
Asheville starter Patrick Nicolas pitched effectively against the Billings Polar Bears at Asheville Park. The right-hander led his team to a 5-0 win. In 5 innings, Nicolas surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 2. He allowed no runs. The defending champion Highlanders have struggled a bit to find their groove this season, but improve to 7-8 with the win.

Asheville third baseman Don Skerrett contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the third. With two down, he hit a slider into left-center field for a 2-run double. It was his 3rd double of the season and put the Highlanders ahead, 3-0.

"It's always nice to be on the winning side," Nicolas told the Asheville Citizen. "But we take nothing for granted."
