Port Royal pitcher Jerry Kumpf did his part in helping his team beat the Tortolita Drummers, 3-2. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Andrei-Luiz Frial was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 9 of 11 save opportunities. The Disaster bumped their record to 46-38 with this latest triumph.
Port Royal took a 3-1 lead on Michael Brannon's 1st double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Brannon hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Tortolita pitcher Scott Thompson visibly frustrated.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Port Royal manager Harris Bailey said.
