Starks Come Back Late to Top Halberds
|
Despite a fine performance by third baseman Tom Boyer, the Alloway Halberds suffered a 6-4 loss to the Syracuse Starks. Boyer went 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. The win was credited to Christiaan Volkers in relief. His record improves to 5-2. Frank Butler took the loss. The Starks now have a record of 38-46.
Syracuse used the clutch hitting of Atanza Vongor to capture the win. The shortstop drilled a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to give the Starks the lead, 5-4. For the game, Vongor had 1 single and 1 double in 4 at-bats.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Vongor. "And not try to do too much."
