Knights Win at Echo Park, 5-3
|
Getting a good performance from designated hitter Ed Mellor, the Kingston Township Knights defeated the Echo Park Lakers, 5-3. Mellor was 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3 for the Knights. Jin-oong Mae, who went 7.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 5 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 9. His record now stands at 7-7. Their 52-53 record puts the Knights 7th in the Third League.
Mellor had a game-changing home run in the top of the seventh. On a 2-0 fastball from Jeffery Prosser, he banged a 3-run home run to left, giving the Knights a 5-2 lead. It was the 23rd home run of the year for Mellor.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Mellor told reporters after the game.
