Stingers Fall Short, 5-4, at Echo Park

The Lakers grabbed a win, 5-4, at LA Forum, overcoming a fine effort from Toledo pitcher Ricky Sellers. Sellers went 0 innings and allowed no earned runs. Echo Park reliever Tate Beason picked up the win to move to 2-1. Marcos Oquendo suffered the loss. Corbin Holling nailed down his 15th save.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Komotay Koffie came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Toledo pitcher Marcos Oquendo, he hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Echo Park on top, 5-4.
Koffie called the triumph "a good team win."
Echo Park is now 30-23.
