Starks Topple Hotspur Reserves, 6-3
|
Thunderbirds Stadium was the site for USSL Triple A action featuring the Phoenix Hotspur Reserves and Syracuse Starks.
The Syracuse Starks defeated the Phoenix Hotspur Reserves, 6-3. Earning player of the game honors was second baseman Jean Couturier, who was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Burm Snart earned his 5th save in 5 chances.
The result might have been different for Syracuse, had it not been for Gary Malone. The designated hitter produced a run-scoring walk in the top of the first inning to put the Starks ahead, 1-0. For the game, Malone had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"In baseball, you have your ups and downs," said Phoenix manager Terry Stokes. "You just try to stay level-headed the whole time."
With the win, the Starks improved to 36-45.
