The Brinkley Belugas did just enough to sneak past the Jersey City Tritons, 4-3, at Jersey City Grounds. Brinkley pitcher David Silva earned player of the game honors. Silva got the win, improving to 8-7. He allowed 3 hits and walked 0 over 7.1 innings. Silva allowed 1 earned run. Fernando Nava converted his 10th save in 12 tries.
Brinkley relied on the hitting of Jim MacRach to pick up the win. The third baseman clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Belugas on top, 4-0. For the game, MacRach had 1 home run and 1 single in 3 at-bats.
"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Jersey City skipper John McGrath.
