The Syracuse Starks put one in the win column with an opening day 4-1 triumph over the Florida Men. The crowd at Stark Stadium watched Ollie McDaniell put on a fine performance, for which he was named player of the game. The winner was Juan Gusmán in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Omar Morales took the loss.
Syracuse grabbed control in the bottom of the sixth. With one out and a runner on 3rd, Graeme Dormer delivered a run-scoring single, to make it 2-1 in favor of the Starks.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Dormer. "And not try to do too much."
