The Portland Evergreens did just enough to secure a 4-3 victory over the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids at Evergreen Park. Nobody did more than pitcher Robert Smalls, who captured player of the game honors. Portland reliever Mark Zaugg picked up the win, upping his record to 2-2. Ratko Davidovic absorbed the loss. With the win over Northern Virginia, the Evergreens improved to 18-30.

Portland took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. With two out, first baseman Blaze Alexander hit a solo home run that set the crowd abuzz.

Alexander told a Portland Gazette reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.
