Torres Goes Off, But Golden Cranes Win
|
The Santa Barbara Golden Cranes outlasted José Torres and the Alaskan Humpbacks, 8-6. Torres was impressive in the loss. The Alaskan shortstop slugged 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice. Santa Barbara reliever Román Ornelas picked up the win, bumping his record to 1-0. Ramon Wuilink was collared with the loss. Santa Barbara is 8th in the Premier AAA with a record of 18-25.
Santa Barbara took a 7-5 lead on Ed St. James's 42nd hit of the season. The 2-run single, which St. James hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Alaskan pitcher Kingston Liniak visibly frustrated.
Golden Cranes manager Lockwood Rose wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."
