Belugas Win in Extras
|
The Bloomington Longnecks got a sterling performance from pitcher Ron Mingo, but the Belugas still prevailed, 2-1. Mingo was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He came in in relief and pitched to 15 batters . The winner was Daniel Edwards in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Gerald Keller took the loss. Rainer Polonius recorded the save for Brinkley, his 1st of the season.
The outcome might have been different for Brinkley, had it not been for John Clark, the speedster . Clark stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the 11th inning to put Brinkley up, 2-1. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Brinkley manager José Reyes said.
The first-place Belugas raised their record to 23-13.
