The Virginia Beach Whales defeated the Lancaster Farmers, 13-11, at Virginia Beach Grounds. Virginia Beach first baseman Jon Deal was named player of the game for his superb performance. He went 3 for 5 with a home run and a double. He scored 3 times and drove in 3. Virginia Beach reliever Danny Richardson was credited with the win, to go to 1-0. Carlos González took the loss for Lancaster. Virginia Beach, at 6-1, is off to a blistering start.

Virginia Beach took a 7-6 lead on Ernest O'Neal's 1st hit of the season. The run-scoring single, which O'Neal hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Lancaster pitcher Carlos González shaking his head.

"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," O'Neal told the Virginia Beach Bulletin.
