Rainbow Mermaids Come Up Short at Chicago
The Chicago Silver Sox picked up a win at Silver Sox Park, knocking off the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids, 3-2. Starting pitcher Valentin Calhamar, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. In 7.1 innings, Calhamar surrendered 8 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 0. He allowed 2 runs. Chicago occupies 4th place in the Premier League at 21-14.

One important at-bat came with runners on 1st and 2nd in the bottom of the fourth inning. Facing Northern Virginia hurler Ratko Davidovic, Jonathan Gunner, who finished 3rd in the PL in triples with 7 last year, drew a walk. The Silver Sox went on to win.

"We had a good game plan," Calhamar said, "and we were able to execute it."
