Redbirds Pull Back to .500 With Win Over Flyers
|
The Memphis Redbirds beat the Pennsauken Flyers, 6-5, at Pennsauken Park. Memphis designated hitter Sean Worley earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He went 1-2 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. The winner was Memphis reliever George Kane, now 1-1. The loser was Dong-hua Hao. I-tsing Ts'ong finished the game for Memphis and earned his 1st save.
Memphis used the clutch hitting of Neville van Mierlo to capture the win. The left fielder drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Redbirds ahead, 5-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," van Mierlo told reporters after the game.
The 'W' lifts Memphis's record to 16-16.
