Both teams had their chances, but the New Orleans Voodoo eventually prevailed at Evergreen Park.
The New Orleans Voodoo beat the Portland Evergreens, 8-7, at Evergreen Park. The Voodoo got a fine performance from third baseman Richard Jost, who captured player of the game honors. He went 2 for 5 with a home run and a triple. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Grover Lowdermilk recorded his 10th save for New Orleans.
Ruud van Ineveld, who is a two-time Gold Glove winner, aided the New Orleans cause with a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth. For the game, the center fielder went 1-5.
Jost expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
With the win, New Orleans goes to 19-10, while the Evergreens fall to 10-19.
