Red Pandas Lose, 5-2, at Speedway Field
|
Sioux Falls center fielder Lawrence Perry had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Perry went 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles, even as Indianapolis beat the Red Pandas, 5-2. Perry was named the player of the game despite the loss. Jeff Merritt, credited with the win, is now 1-1. He allowed 2 runs on 8 hits in 5 innings. Indianapolis, now 4-6, is off to a slow start.
The Racers got a big at-bat from first baseman Mathew Mayo. For the game, Mayo went 2 for 4 with 2 doubles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the third, with the bases loaded, he stroked a bases-clearing double. His 3rd double of the season gave Indianapolis a 4-2 lead.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Mayo told the Indianapolis Bulletin.
