The Chicago Silver Sox got a strong performance from pitcher Alvin Randolph, who stymied the Hollywood offense en route to a 4-1 win at The Hollywood Bowl. In 7.2 innings, Randolph surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 3. He allowed 1 run. The 4th-place Silver Sox have won 5 in a row.
Chicago used the clutch hitting of Gerrie Bond to capture the win. The second baseman drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Silver Sox ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Bond.
