Merlo Grabs SR Reliever of the Year Award Friday, September 24th, 2038 He may only be 20, but Javier Merlo of the Redwood Rhinos has already established himself as one of the elite relievers in the USSL Rookie. The reliever was today named the SR Reliever of the Year Award winner for 2038. He won the award with a strong year that saw him put up 19 saves in 36 relief appearances and 67 strikeouts in 53.1 innings. He had a record of 5-3 to go with his 1.35 ERA. He received 10 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Glenn van der Kuijl of the Hicksville Hounds finished second in voting, while Tim Eastham of the Surprise Shockers finished third.
