Bad Behavior Costs Mata and Zuidgeest Friday, July 2nd, 2038 Yesterday at Pennsauken Park Juan Mata and Gerrit Zuidgeest got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Pennsauken Flyers and Milton Dogfish Head. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game. Today the league office notified the ballclubs that Mata will have to sit out 4 while Zuidgeest would be given a 6-game suspension for their roles in the brawl. Currently Mata is batting .267 with 5 home runs, 19 RBIs and 20 runs scored. Zuidgeest has fashioned a 2-3 mark for the season, 3.92 ERA and thrown 64.1 innings in 12 starts. Opposing clubs are batting .258 against him. |
