Hotspur Win Thriller, 7-6
|
The inspired effort of Buffalo right fielder Gilberto Ocasio was not enough to prevent a 7-6 loss to the Phoenix Hotspur. Ocasio was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Phoenix reliever Dermot Eridge picked up the win to move to 4-1. Ron Manning suffered the loss. The Hotspur, now 45-47, have won 4 in a row.
The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Tadayoshi Watanabe came to bat in the bottom of the 11th. Facing Buffalo pitcher Ron Manning, he hit a 1-2 changeup for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Phoenix on top, 7-6.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Watanabe said.
