Echo Park Wins Game in Extras; On Verge of R2040
|
The Echo Park Lakers took the first game of the Round 2039 in dramatic fashion today, topping the Brooklyn Dodgers 5-4 in an extra-inning walk-off win. Lakers right-hander Nolan Howard was selected player of the game, as he threw 8 innings allowing 2 runs.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Ryoma Yamamoto came to bat in the bottom of the 11th. Facing Brooklyn pitcher Harrison Tuff, he hit a 1-0 curveball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Echo Park on top, 5-4.
"We fed off the energy of the crowd at the end," Yamamoto said.
