The Northern Virginia starter rose to the occasion at Wolf Den in Vancouver today, earning player of the game honors after leading the Rainbow Mermaids to a crucial 6-1 victory over the Vancouver Grey Wolves. Rubia threw 9 innings of 2-hit ball as the Rainbow Mermaids won on the road to seize a - lead in the best-of- Round 2039.

Rubia earned the win, going 9 strong innings for Northern Virginia. The native of Bayamo, Cuba allowed just 2 hits, while striking out 7. Vancouver hitters did next to nothing against the right-hander.

"It feels a lot better to be tied than to be behind, even if it is only one game," Northern Virginia manager David Lister said.
